1. INTRODUCTION

We'd like to extend a warm welcome to the nearly 100 new members who have joined the MTCAA since the last newsletter. We'd also like to welcome our new alumni contacts: Gozali Janty in Jakarta and Marcia Pope in Los Angeles.

We'd like to hear what fellow alumni are up to, so drop us a line at mtcalumni@bigfoot.com and tell us about what you or a fellow alumni are doing.

Also, please let us know if you or someone you know participated in the MTC's dragon boat team, as we're compiling a history of the teams. Thanks.

2. TEA PARTY AT THE MTC

On May 12, 2001, the MTCAA held its first reunion in Taipei. This event was organized by the MTCAA with the Center for Chinese Language and Culture (the CCLC, formerly known as the MTC), and was held in the CCLC's Bo'ai Building at 129, Hoping East Road in Taipei. Speakers at the event included the current director of the CCLC, Professor Lo Ching; former director Professor Yeh Te-ming; and several MTC alumni, including Julian Baum, former editor of the Far Eastern Economic Review, Elizabeth Sah, general manager for Primasia, and James Spencer, the curator for the Chang Foundation. More than 80 people attended.

3. UPCOMING EVENTS

For those in the San Francisco area, William Shaw is planning an outdoor trek with fellow alumni that promises to be a lot of fun. If you're interested, better contact him at w_shaw99@yahoo.com! It should be happening quite soon.

The Center for Chinese Language and Culture (as the MTC is now officially known) has finally gotten its own webserver, and as a result the URL for our site has been changed. It is now http://mtc.ntnu.edu.tw/mtcaa, so please update your bookmarks to our new homepage. Also, NBCi has bought Xoom.com and has discontinued webhosting services. Therefore, the MTCAA wil not have a US-based mirror site until further notice.
